The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
