Catherine's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will listen to a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
